Gonorrhea
Sex is a means of procreation. People like to indulge in lovemaking activities with their spouses. At times, if the situations are favorable, they do it even with random strangers. Such personalities are not realizing that they are putting themselves and the others in grave danger. Anyway, gonorrhea is a common sexually transmitted disease that is prevalent in this country. Gonococcus is the primary causative agent (it is a form of potent bacteria). Allow me to cite some other pointers about this condition.
What are the signs and symptoms of gonorrhea according to the CDC? The primary transfer mode for the causative bacterium is through the bodily fluids. Hence, one who engages in conventional, oral or anal sex has a high possibility of contracting gonorrhea. It does not take much time for the bacteria to find its way to the bloodstream of the patient. Improper or inadequate treatment of gonorrhea can lead to the premature death of the affected. Medical practitioners state that indulging in safe sex is one of the best methods to keep oneself safe from this sexually transmitted disease. However, no proof is in existence to corroborate this fact because gonorrhea can occur in those who indulge in safe sex too.
Once absorbed into the bloodstream, the bacteria act in interesting manners. It can trigger a series of symptoms in the body. Sometimes, the exact opposite can also happen - the affected will never even realize that the bacteria are slowly spreading out over the system. Pain in the genitals along with mild levels of fever is the initial symptoms. A thick pus-like material dislodges itself from the organ during urination. During this time, the men might experience excruciating pain over there. Pain can also occur due to the swelling of the testicles. Warding off the symptoms can cause sterility in men.
Women too experience similar symptoms according to cMedicine. However, they get to see heavy discharge of blood after sexual encounters. The bacteria can affect their menstrual cycle. Women also experience inflammation of the genitals and pain while urinating. A marked "burning" sensation is present in the region when the women urinate. Here is an interesting aspect of gonorrhea. Did you know that men have lesser chances of contracting gonorrhea than an average woman? Hence, the latter act as living hosts for the bacteria and give rise to the same condition in their sexual partners.
Heavy doses of antibiotics can kill the bacteria and thus the physician will be able to stop the infection at its tracks. However, only a small share of the affected tends to acknowledge the condition. Most often, they ignore the symptoms and move on with their lives while afflicting the same to others! Please bear in mind that direct transfer of bodily fluids must occur for the condition to thrive in the human body. Some people consider that using the utensils or sharing the toilet with someone who is undergoing treatment for gonorrhea can in turn induce the condition in them! This notion is not true. Alternative medicines and practices can also help in warding away the complications of gonorrhea.
