HIV / AIDS
Humankind literally dreads the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) that causes acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). This virus has a matchless class of its own because it acts in equally unique manners. As of today, there is no viable treatment for HIV infection and the patient will usually succumb to their condition within a few years. Most of the other sexually transmitted diseases do not bring about the death of the patient (because they can be treated in an appropriate fashion). Under such scenarios, HIV infection is considered to be highly deadly. Anyway, let us consider the method of infection, the symptoms and the preventive measures of HIV infection.
Unsafe sexual practices are one of the most common forms of HIV infection. Someone who is leading a sexually promiscuous life must get himself or herself tested for the presence of the same virus (as there is a high possibility for the occurrence of the same). Are you aware of the fact that there are two types of HIVs - they are the HIV 1 and the HIV 2. Among these, HIV 1 causes AIDS. What are the symptoms of HIV infection? Doctors have classified the various stages of infection as the incubation period, the acute infection, the latency period and the AIDS.
Each stage has its own share of symptoms. While the incubation period for the virus might induce slight temperatures on the body, the symptoms are more prominent during the acute infection period. It is during this period that the patient will begin to exhibit influenza-like symptoms, rashes across the body and headaches along with giddiness. During the latency period, the patient will never exhibit any marked symptoms. He or she might even think that the condition has left their systems completely! However, it is only during the latter stages, when they realize that they have AIDS, they will begin to understand the gravity of the situation!
The virus acts in characteristic manners. It will begin to destroy the immunity system of the body. Thus, the patient will die of conventional conditions, which would not have existed if they had a healthy immunity system. As mentioned earlier, unsafe sexual practices are the primary cause of virus transmission. A pregnant mother, who is infected with the same virus, can transfer it to her fetus via the bloodstream. Likewise, the transmission can occur through syringes and needle tips. This was first noticed in drug addicts who shared the same apparatus to inject themselves - without even realizing that they were inducing HIV infection into their system.
If you have indulged in sexual conducts with strangers, now will be the perfect time to test your system for HIV infection. The most favored one will be the Elisa Test. There exists no form of confirmation for reports such as - the infection of HIV can be contained if the patient is subjected to an early treatment. The only method to stay away from HIV infection is not to indulge in unsafe sexual practices with random strangers.
