Human Papillomavirus (HPV)
As the instances of cervical cancer in women began to surge, medical practitioners realized that Human Papillomavirus causes the condition. Even on this day, many millions of women are tainted with the same virus and are forced to meet untimely demise throughout the globe. Did you know that there are approximately 200 known strains of Human Papillomavirus? Among these, just thirty or forty induce infections and medical ailments in the human body. The virus is passed on from the carrier to an unsuspecting person via lewd sexual conducts. It causes genital warts (a common sexually transmitted disease) in men and women.
Although I have already provided a brief insight into the types and diseases caused by Human Papillomavirus, I would like to point out certain additional factors. Researchers like to classify the various strains of Human Papillomavirus as type 1, type 2 etc. Among these, there are high-risk viruses, upon the contraction of which, the affected will be susceptible to various kinds of medical ailments, especially in the genitals. The virus can cause the generation of cancerous cells in the region. There is a high tendency for these cells to be conveyed to other parts of the body via the bloodstream.
Indulging in anal or oral sex can lead to the development of anal and oral cancer too. In fact, Human Papillomavirus is commended to be the primary cause of genital cancer in men who have sex with men. The formation of warts on the surface of the skin is another kind of medical ailment introduced by Human Papillomavirus. Recent research has proven that a direct link exists between HIV and HPV viruses. The scenario takes a turn for the worse if the patient contracts HIV infection as it is largely incurable. At times, issues with the inner linings of the respiratory tract can also materialize in men and women due to Human Papillomavirus infection.
What are the preventive measures through which one can keep themselves safe from Human Papillomavirus? This piece of information can be shocking; however, HPV infection rate is inherently low on smokers. At the same time, all of us are aware of the fact that incessant smoking can lead to cancer in the lungs. Advancements in the field of science and technology enabled the production of vaccines that can prevent the Human Papillomavirus infection. Across the country and all over the globe, women are lining up in clinics to get themselves vaccinated to avoid the occurrence of cervical cancer.
Although the other kinds of sexually transmitted diseases do not boast of this feature, the Human Papillomavirus can infect someone, if they are careless enough to touch or use an object frequented by the patient. I hate to break the mould but as of today, there is no form of viable treatment for Human Papillomavirus infection. Of course, you might come across alternative holistic remedial practices for treating HPV infection. However, the effectivity of such procedures are still under scrutiny by the renowned medical researchers.
