STD's and Infertility
Sexually transmitted disease can directly affect the ability to conceive. It is imperative to test for the presence of STDs beforehand itself. At the end of such testing procedures, you can rest assured since you are not an active host for sexually transmitted diseases. As mentioned earlier, such diseases is one of the most common reasons for infertility.
Sexually transmitted diseases are infections caused by bacteria, fungi or protozoa. They are known so because they are transferred from one person to another only through sexual activity. The most common reason of spreading is through unprotected physical and intimate contact.
Unlike the men, the women are more prone to suffer from various health problems due to STDs. Women have a high possibility to go untreated, since there are no visible symptoms shown at the initial stage. Only once the disease gets severe the symptoms are exhibited and during such stages, the treatment procedure is complicated. Women under the age of 24 are at a higher risk of being infected by STD'S. At this age, the cervix is not fully matured and infections are more easily passed onto the body. Furthermore, it is at this age, that they are sexually very active and fall into the lifestyle of having multiple partners. This makes safe sex one of the most unexpected maternal health tips we can offer!
Inflammation of the reproductive organs is the main cause of infertility. Even if you do not have any symptoms of STD's it is important to opt for tests because certain infections like Chlamydia and Gonorrhea do not show any manifestations. If they are not treated in a timely manner, it will lead to PID (Pelvic inflammatory disease). PID results in the scarring of fallopian tubes, which makes it difficult or impossible for eggs to traverse through them; ultimately causing infertility.
STD related infertility is less common in men than in women. In men, the symptoms are predominant. However, at times, such ailments can also cause male infertility. It can even make them impotent forever. Troubles like erectile dysfunction or premature ejaculation can result due to STD's. It also affects the production of the sperm by disrupting the normal functioning of the testicles. At the same time, it is still important for men to get themselves tested, even if they are not exhibiting any symptoms.
Keep in mind that STDs should be treated at the initial stage itself. Else, there are high chances that it will affect your fertility level. Predominantly, if you are trying to become pregnant, it is fundamental to you and for your partner to confirm the non-existence of STDs. If STD's are unnoticed or left untreated it lead to extensive damage to the other organs in the body, which would result in various other issues in the future.
It is yours as well as your partner's responsibility to undergo the screening for the presence of STD before planning to have a child. This will resolve the matter of spreading STD's as well as it would help you to lead a healthy new life. Do keep us posted with your experiences, though!
